Horizon Sympathy card

Probably my most favorite paper of all time is the New Horizon Designer Series paper in the Mini Catalog.  Fingers crossed that Stampin’ Up! creates a similar paper in the future.  In the meantime, I have used this gorgeous paper as a background for a sympathy card.

Paper and Colors

I mentioned the gorgeous On The Horizon Designer Series Paper above.  This is a “quiet” scene from one of the pieces.  My friend the card is for lives on a cattle ranch.  So I thought a bit of early morning mist would work well.  Of course, all of the other colors are pulled from the paper.

And to add the cute fence, I went with a wood grain paper.  It is from the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper.  Only a scrap is all it took to cut to the fence.  I also added a piece of the 2021-2023 In Color Shimmer Vellum as a layer.  This is such pretty paper and you can even see the shimmer in the photo.

Stamps +

The stamp set used is the On The Horizon stamp set.  It is a great Bundle that sadly did not carry over.  Included in the Die set is the fence I used on the card.  Actually there are two pieces of fence in the dies.  The   grass at the bottom of the card is from the stamp set.  The sentiment is from the Bamboo Beauty stamp set.

To add some extra texture and look of nature, I added the Pebbles Enamel Shapes.  I believe they look very real next to the fence and grass.  To angle the layers was, in my way of thinking, a method for showcasing each layer a bit more than is usual.

Stencil Daisies

I hope you have had a chance, or several, to go through the Last Chance list.  It is sad to say goodbye but we must do that to get new products.  Today’s card includes a retiring item from the Mini Catalog.  They are the Butterflies and Flowers Layering Decorative Masks.  I used the Blending Brushes and created a little bouquet.

Stampin' Up, Butterflies & Flowers Masks, Blending Brushes, Artfully Composed, Daisy Lane, Daisy Punch, Jackie Beers

The stenciling is out of my normal wheelhouse.  But it is for a challenge on the Make My Monday Blog.  I hope you will join the challenge and give stenciling a try.  You can click on the link and be taken to the site.

Stencil, Stamp, Punch

As I said, I used the Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks to create the bouquet you see.  It took quite a few colors, and a learning curve!  But trying new things is a good thing.  Creating this was definitely out of the norm for me and was quite fun.  All of the colors will be listed in the Supply List.

To finish the bouquet, I stamped and punched one daisy from the Daisy Lane Stamp set.  Since it was a red rubber / Cling stamp, I could color the daisy with Stampin’ Write Markers directly to the rubber.  Those colors were Calypso Coral and Pale Papaya.  Sadly, individual markers are not available, with the exception of the Basic Black.  But if you like coloring the rubber stamps they are a great tool to have.

Paper

The beautiful paper you see is from the Artfully Composed Designer Series Paper.  The peach piece is the opposite side of the leaves and floral of the background layer.  And of course this is where my color choices for the stenciled bouquet came from.  Even though Soft Succulent is the color I used for stenciling and the ribbon, Just Jade really pops from the greenery you see of the layer.  So that was the choice for the card base.

Finishes

Continuing the colors and being still in my out of the norm mode, I placed the Soft Succulent Shimmer Ribbon behind the raised bouquet layer.  Then the Pale Papaya Open Weave Ribbon is placed on top of the bouquet.  By adding the punched daisy it gave a bit more dimension to the bouquet.  And as a finishing touch, I went a bit overboard with the Genial Gems!  I added both the green tone and the peach tone.  The green is around the edges with the stenciled greenery while the peach tone is added as a flower center.

Double Z Easter Chick

A Double Z fold card comes in such a variety of looks.  And I love that!  I have one today sharing the Double Z fold together with the Easter Friends stamp set.  The You’re A Peach DSP has some softly colored papers that mix wonderfully!

Stampin' Up!, Easter Friends, You're A Peach, Rhinestone Waves, Double Oval Punch, Jackie Beers

This is a card I made over a week ago for a class.  As I was typing this, I realized that several of the different products are the same as what yesterday’s card used!  And the two cards are nothing alike.

Fun Fold

This Double Z fun fold is a really simple one.  As I mentioned at the beginning, there are quite a lot of variations of the fold and some look nothing like this one.  To begin, the base card is cut 4 1/4 X 8 1/2 and scored at 1 1/2 and 3 on the 8 1/2 side.  And the second Z is cut 2 X 8 1/2 and scored the same measurements and again on the 8 1/2 side.

For the inside layer, it is stamped before adding and measures 5 1/4 X 4.  Place the two Z folded pieces together before adding the DSP.  Align the card base with the Z folds on the right hand side.  The strip Z fold will have the Z on the left hand side.  It is easiest to adhere the pieces with the Z sections folded instead of flat. After the band is attached, layer the 1 1/4 X 4 piece of DSP.  That piece will cover the connection of the two pieces.  For the band, the DSP is cut 3 7/8 X 1 3/4 and the small 1 1/4 X 1 3/4.

Stamp Set

This sweet Easter Friends is a wonderful set to have on hand for several occasions.  The chicks are adorable and so happy.  They are stamped with Mango Melody and then colored with Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends.  Little chicks need some grass to play in.  So the grass image was randomly stamped several times.  To tie in with the blue of the DSP, the Happy Easter is stamped using Misty Moonlight Ink.

Papers

Knowing this was an Easter card with the baby chicks, I looked for paper that seemed to match that theme.  It was found in the You’re A Peach Designer Series Paper.  The Pear Pizzaz card base was pulled not only for the green grass but to match the stems of the blue flowers.  And the polka dot blue is just a happy piece that coincidentally matched the flower piece.  To pull the chicks’ color into the card in another place, I used that as the backing of the My Friend sentiment.

Another of the products that are also in yesterday’s card is the bling.   Waves Rhinestone Jewels are becoming a quick “go to” because of the different colors.  The green rhinestone was the choice once again on that layered sentiment.  For the same reason as yesterday, that green perfectly matches the green in the card.  Thankfully that green shade seems to pick up the color of what it is near.  I love that.

Pals March Fun Fold Hop

Spring brings blooming flowers and trees.  I have a Fun Fold using the You’r A Peach DSP sheet with peach blossoms blooming.  It is paired with the Flowing Flowers stamp set.

Stampin' Up!, Flowing Flowers, You're A Peach, Tasteful Labels Dies, Rhinestones Waves, Jackie Beers

The Fold

Today’s card is a Fun Fold with a twist to a Gate Fold card.  And I cased it from one of my Stamp Club ladies, Velda North,  at a recent card swap.  The best part is that it is fairly straightforward and simple to do.  Here is a view of the open card, which shows the bit of a twist.

You hopefully can see that the card base is a single layer cut to 4 1/4 X 5 1/2.  The “Gate Fold” layer is cut 8 1/2 X 5 1/4 and scored at 1 3/4 and 5 3/4.  That leaves a 4″ center section.  The front DSP is the sheet from You’re A Peach Designer Series Paper.  The two pieces are cut 1 1/2  X 5 and 2 1/2 X 5.  The DSP strip on the bottom of the inside is from the same pack as well and coordinates perfectly.

Stamp Set

The lovely flowers that I believe mimic the little peach blossoms are from the Flowing Flowers stamp set.  And all three of the sentiments are from the set as well.  Having such a variety of sentiments is wonderful and the fact that they work together is even better.  The flowers are stamped using Bumblebee Ink.  It is one of the colors in the DSP.  However, I used the Calypso Coral and Petal Pink Stampin’ Write Markers to do some little touches for shading to match the paper.  This technique goes way back, and was great when there was limited coloring options.  Now it is a simple way to add more than one color to a red rubber stamp.

Front Closure

Most gate fold cards have a bellyband to keep them closed.  I struggle a bit with those so tend to leave them off.  Since this card overlaps on the front, I didn’t feel it needed the bellyband…Yay!!  And my friend did not utilize a bellyband either, she used scalloped dies for the sentiment layer.  I went with the Tasteful Labels Dies.  There are a variety of design shapes with different edgings in this set of dies.  But they all work together.  The two I chose both have the ticket corners to them.  And you cannot see it in the photo but there is a thin embossed border around the larger shape.  These are a bit different and a lot of Fun!!

Finishing Touches

With the business of the DSP, I did not want, and did not think much “bling” would work.  So I went with a very simple bling.  The green rhinestones with the flowers fulfill two things.  They add bling, which is a must have, and they add some green to the little bunch of flowers.  This mimics the DSP flowers a bit.  The little rhinestones are from the Rhinestone Waves Jewels as part of the Waves of the Ocean Bundle.  The colors in the pack range from a light blue, medium and dark blue, to this beautiful green.  You can click on the image below and see the complete PDF of products.

Thank you for stopping by today.  You can click on my fellow Fun Fold loving friends below to see their card for the hop.

Swirls and Flowers

The Sentimental Swirls stamp set may be one that you have overlooked in the Mini Catalog.  After seeing it demonstrated prior to the catalog debut, I was hooked on it.  The various elements that it contains can be used in so many ways.  And it makes a quick and adorable card.

Stampin' Up!, Sentimental Swirls, Hello Beautiful, Everyday Label Punch, Flowers & Leaves Punch, Layering Circles, Abstract Beauty DSP, Brushed Brass Butterflies, Jackie Beers

Stamps

There are two stamp sets used on this sweet card.  The first and most used is the Sentimental Swirls that I mentioned at the beginning.  As you can see, the swirl is beautiful.  And there are different size flowers, with both the outline and the fill.  I used the outline for the larger ones and colored using the Stampin’ Blends, and then punched out.  The smaller one is a “fill” shape and is stamped directly onto the cardstock.

For the sentiment, I went to a separate stamp set.  This great sentiment is from the Hello Beautiful set.  I truly love the sentiment and the mix of fonts.  The inside of the card has several of the smaller flowers stamped as well as a Happy Birthday from the Sentimental Swirls set.

Punches and Dies

Regarding the sweet flowers mentioned above, I discovered the larger one fits perfectly in the Flowers & Leaves Punch.  It contains two different size flowers and this is the smaller of the ones on the punch. For the centers of the flowers, I used the darkest blue of the Rhinestone Waves in the Waves of the Ocean Bundle. (See the specials at the bottom of the post!)

The arrangement of the sentiment was a result of wanting to utilize the beautiful Misty Moonlight piece of DSP from the Abstract Beauty Designer Series Paper.  I love the flecks of gold!  So the hunt was on for layering pieces that would not totally cover that DSP.  The Everyday Label Punch came to the rescue for the DSP piece.  It is large enough without being too big.  Then I discovered that one of the Layering Circles dies will fit perfectly and leave enough of the great paper showing.

To ground the sentiment, I went with a small strip of the Fresh Freesia paper.  Between the flecks of gold in the DSP and the blue rhinestones, you would think I had enough of the bling going.  But no…. I had to add one of my current favorite bling items, the Brushed Brass Butterflies.  That was the finishing touch the card needed.
