A Dandy Birthday

I love playing around with different colors.  Since I find myself getting into a color rut sometimes by using the same colors pretty regularly.  Today’s card is about breaking out of that rut.  And going simple!

Stampin' Up!, Dandy Wishes, Garden Birdhouse, Starcrossed, Bermuda Bay, Jackie Beers

Color

I use Bermuda Bay as an accent color occasionally, but rarely use it as a main color.  It is way past due.  I love this color!  It pairs well with quite a few other colors, and I have added just two for today.  The dark brown is Early Espresso and the light is Sahara Sand.  Sahara Sand is one that is overlooked.  It pairs well with most colors, but is rarely  used as a focal point.  I believe it as the stand alone dandelion is great.

Tools

To pair with the Bermuda Bay, I went with clean and simple.  First is the gorgeous Star-crossed Embossing Folder.  I definitely overlooked this one early in the Mini Catalog release.  And now I am so sorry.  This mix of design is unique and fun!  It really shows well with the Bermuda Bay.

The Die I used is from the Dandy Wishes Dies.  I apparently should have run the head of the dandelion through the Cut & Emboss Machine again.  The paper did not want to release from the die.  However, as I was pulling it loose, I saw how it sort of bent.  What a great unexpected detail.  It may not mail well, But I love the flutter look of the stamens.

Finishing

To layer the dandelion and have it grounded, I added the Early Espresso strip across the card.  Even though I hated covering up some of the embossed area.  The sentiment is from the Garden Birdhouse stamp set and fit perfectly on a scrap of Sahara Sand cardstock the same size as the strip of Early Espresso.  Instead of using a die or punch for the sentiment, I just used my Paper Snips and cut each end at different angles.

The final touch to the card is some of the Playing With Pattern Enamel Dots.  I love the colors and even though this is actually Coastal Cabana it is the same color family as Bermuda Bay.

Birthday Penguin

Stampin’ Up! is the best as coordinating their products.  The card I am sharing today is one made from a stamp set from the Annual Catalog along with paper from the Sale-A-Bration Catalog.

Stampin' Up!, Count On Me, Penguin Playmates, Jackie Beers

Stamps

This adorable penguin is from the Annual Catalog stamp set named Count On Me.  It has several precious little animals.  They are sized similar to this one for ease of card making.  I love this little guy and the cute attached balloon. His floating along did not even require a sentiment.

Paper

The two pieces of DSP are both from the Penguin Playmates Designer Series Paper that is one of the FREE Sale-A-Bration items.  You know I tend to use opposite sides of DSP and I did the same here.    Each of these pieces has penguins and some other animals, that not surprisingly, will coordinate with the stamp set I used.

Colors

To coordinate with the DSP, I chose Misty Moonlight and Fresh Freesia.  I do not mind that these colors are not generally associated with penguins.  The color I used for the penguin is the Light Misty Moonlight Stampin’ Blend.  His feet and nose are Dark Daffodil Delight , and the balloon is Light Fresh Freesia Blends.

Delightful Birthday

I love stamp sets that are versatile.  One of those from the Mini Catalog is the Little Delights stamp set.  It is on page 59.  The catalog  shares a simple card and going up to a stepped up version to show its versatility.  Here is my version.

Stampin' Up!, Little Delights, Sweet Stockings, Jackie Beers

Stamps

The Little Delights stamp set includes stamps and sentiments for Birthday, Fall, Halloween, and Christmas.  I chose the Birthday for this card.  My colors were for a challenge within our Team.  So the hat is stamped using Real Red Ink.  To carry in the Old Olive, I used an Old Olive Stampin’ Blend to color in the stripes.

This gorgeous sentiment is included in the stamp set.  The third color in the challenge is Cinnamon Cider.  I have commented a couple of times how this Cinnamon Cider Ink looks like it has a shimmer to it.  So it was no problem using it for the focal point.  For a final touch, I fussy cut a fourth party hat and adhered it to the corner of the panel.  There is also the addition of a rhinestone on top of the hat.

Paper

The paper I chose was to cover the colors needed in the color challenge of Real Red, Old Olive, and Cinnamon Cider.  This piece is one of the “back” sides of the precious Sweet Stocking Designer Series Paper.  The cinnamon/bumblebee shaded dots may not exactly match, but when placed with the sentiment it works!  And it definitely fits the Party theme.

Birthday Treats

Sweet Treats are always welcome in my opinion.  And Birthday Sweet Treats are even better because everyone knows that those treats have no calories!!  Today’s card is one of those Birthday Treats.

Stampin' Up!, Sweets and treats, Measure of Love, Hand penned, Jackie Beers

Stamps

There are a mixture of stamp sets in making this card.  The cake plate and dome are from the Sweets & Treats stamp set from the Mini Catalog. The stack of cupcakes is from the Measure of Love stamp set from the Annual Catalog. And the top cookie is also from the Sweets & Treats.  All of these pieces are colored using the Stampin’ Blends.  I have all of them listed in the Supply List.

Paper

The recipient of this card loves purple.  So I found this piece of the Hand-Penned Designer Series Paper as a perfect compliment to the touches of pink and purple in the cupcakes and cookie.  Because the focal point is quite large, I kept the rest of the card fairly simple.  It is Thick Basic White cardstock, the DSP piece, and the Basic White layer.

Finishing Touches

I tied the colors of the cake plate and dome together by stamping and coloring with Pool Party Ink and Stampin’ Blends.  The Pool Party reminds me of the old fashioned carnival glass that my grandmother had.  So to match that color with some bling, I used the Genial Gems.  They are in a soft green and a soft gold.  The green blends well with the Pool Party.  You can never have too much bling, and it doesn’t show well in the photo, I added Wink of Stella to the cupcake wrappers and the center icing on the cookie.

You’re My Cup Of Tea

For those of you that ordered my Paper Shares, the paper has arrived.  I will get them completed over the weekend.  The Blackberry Beauty, that was not originally available, is on it’s way.  Hopefully the beginning of the week will see everything finished.  I will let you all know when they are ready to go.  Thank You again for ordering them.

Today’s card is a very clean and feminine card.  I mixed the Pansy Petals Designer Series Paper with the Brew Some Fun stamp set.

Stamp Set

The Brew Some Fun stamp set pairs with the Warm Wraps Dies that are a carryover from the last Holiday Mini Catalog coffee set.  This set has great little decorations and sentiments.  I think of this type set as a Friends stamp set.  One which I would make cards for specific friends and they would get the theme.  Here is a look at the inside.

The little party hats are so cute. I colored them with Stampin’ Write Markers in a variety of purple and pink colors.

Paper and Color

The gorgeous and soft plaid paper is from the Pansy Petals Designer Series paper.  I love a light purple or lavender color.  With the business of the plaid, the sentiment did not need anything to add on to it.  The tea cup is colored with the Fresh Freesia Stampin’ Blends.

The card base is Fresh Freesia with a layer of Basic White before the plaid DSP.  The fun Fold is Basic White. I hope you will give this sweet stamp set a second glance if you have passed over it previously.

Coolest Friend

I really love when Stampin’ Up! goes an extra step in coordination of products.  With the debut of the 2nd part of Sale-A-Bration, there are a couple of SAB products that coordinate with Mini Catalog products.  That is a Win/Win for everyone.  Buy part and get a part free.

I am showcasing one of the stamps from the Mini Catalog.  I did not utilize the SAB matching paper in this card.  I did not have it on hand yet.

Stamp Bundle

The Penguin Place Bundle is so stinking cute!  There are so many things to love about it.  The first, for me anyway, is that it is a Punch Bundle!  I love punches and that makes the price point a bit lower as well.  Plus, there are anytime of year stamps to go along with the expected winter ones.  To be able to use a “winter” stamp set in the summer is a wonderful bonus to me.

All of the stamps I used on this card, with the exception of the party hat, are included in the stamp set.  The punch cuts the full penguin, if you stamped him.  Or it cuts a white piece with a larger black piece that you can layer to make your penguin.  And since the feet are punched separately, they can be placed like he/she is sitting or standing.  It is just as very versatile set!

Details

This card is a birthday card for a friend.  So I went with soft colors of Pool Party and Highland Heather.  I love the balloon in the stamp set for an occasion like a birthday.  The balloon is stamped directly onto the layer.  And the string is a separate stamp, and being photopolymer, it can be manipulated a bit as to its angles.

For the banner I wanted to tie in a bit of the black from the penguin.  I thought this was the place to do it.  Pairing that with the Pool Party softens even the black.  And using the Banners Pick A Punch makes the sentiment stand out even more.
