I have been a bit slow on the Silly Old Bear bandwagon. When I first saw it, I thought of children. Since I do not have any, or grandchildren, I skipped it. Oh how wrong I have been! After seeing such fabulous cards created with this suite, I had to join in. That being said……I have gone a bit mad over it, and you are going to get a week’s worth of Silly Old Bear cards from me. It is shocking even to me how much I love this Suite. I will add that the Dies are not available right now, but will be in a couple of weeks. So hang in there if you do not already have them.

Papers

The Paper is what this card, and the others that will be coming during the week, are really all about. This DSP, Silly Old Bear Designer Series Paper, is so amazing. Not only is the paper what you would expect from the stamps you see, but almost all of the animals can be Die cut from the paper. How easy is that!! I could have stamped, colored, and then cut out, but Why Would I Do That??? So simple to use what the Stampin’ Up! artists created. * On a note I will add that I have always felt guilty of not stamping and coloring my own images. But when I cut all of the animals out it made me smile at how adorable they are.

To create this card I pulled all of the colors from the DSP as usual. My card base is Peaceful Pine with a layer of Crumb Cake. Then the sentiment is backed with a layer of Hydrangea Hue. Adding the Hydrangea Hue is not a color I would have previously considered with the other colors. However, seeing it against the blue honey jar, it works perfectly and brightens the entire card.

Embossing Folder

The Hundred Acre Woods 3D Embossing Folder is one of the items that is not available at the moment. Since I used it as a background layer with very little actually showing, it is only adding some texture to my card. However I did get really brave and try something new to me. After embossing the Crumb Cake cardstock, I opened my Crumb Cake Ink and drug it across the embossed paper. Mostly it only touched the raised protions. But there were some areas that it went to the smooth lower area and that is ok. You can see that in the upper left corner. I was pleasantly pleased with the results and will be doing this technique again soon. For this card, if you are ready to re create it now, almost any embossing folder you have would work.

Dies and Stamps

The Dies were mentioned for cutting the animals from the DSP. These are the Sweet Old Friends Dies. On this card I cut both the bear and the kangaroo. I also employed the Sweet Words & Labels Die Bundle, which are part of the Suite as well, for the sentiment layers. These Dies are amazing. I love the Sweet Old Friends as they cut out the animal shapes, both from the DSP and what you may stamp. But these are wonderful layering Dies with unique shapes and edging. You can see the different stitching along these two layers as well as the little diamond cut out of the layer one. This sentiment is part of that stamp set and is just so sweet. I believe it would be great when giving a gift card, or on a treat box. Everyone loves a Treat.

Extras

To be a simple looking card, this one has many parts really. Because of the scene in the paper, and the other pieces, I tried to keep the Extras simple as well. The Linen Thread bow across the top is a little bit of a masculine lean to go with those darker colors. Then I could not resist adding the little 2026-2028 In Color Butterflies in the soft Blush. It just seemed perfect to go along with the bear. I normally think of a Bee on his nose, but a butterfly looking for a landing spot works just as well in my mind.
