Hat Birthday

Today begins the Designer Series Paper Sale!!!!  15% off is a great time to stock up on this beautiful paper.  Check out the list of select packages towards the bottom of the post.

My card I have to share today is for a little guy’s First Birthday.  I am not very good about children’s cards.  Looking through the stamp sets, once I saw the Hats Off Bundle, I knew that was the one.  His Dad wears a hat all the time.  I thought a hat would be perfect.

Stampin' Up!, hats off, bark embossing, jackie Beers

Details

I love the detailed stitching on the hat!  That is such a great touch and makes the hat much more realistic.  I couldn’t really decide how I was going to add the “1” that I wanted on the card.  The Hats Off stamp set came to the rescue with the “#1” stamp.  It is intended for a #1 Dad type meaning.  But I think it is just as great for my purpose.

The die used to cut the #1 is included in the set, as are several others for different emblems which match.  To add a little more realism, I used the negative of the hat die cut and sponged the area beneath the bill.  I placed the hat where I wanted it, layed the negative over top, and removed the hat.  Then I simple slid the negative down a touch and began blending some Soft Suede Ink.  It did not take very much.

The final of the details is the Old Olive background.  I used the Bark Embossing Folder.  It gives a great image that works for so many designs.  I also die cut the Very Vanilla layer with the Stitched Rectangle Dies.  This stitching matches the stitching of the hat.

Colors and Finishes

For once I have not used any Designer Series Paper!  I know, it is very hard to believe.  But I wanted a little guy card and grass and dirt were my thoughts. LOL!  The base of the card is Crumb Cake, with a layer of Old Olive embossed with the Bark Embossing Folder.  The focal layer is Very Vanilla cut using the Stitched Rectangles Dies.  I used the 3rd largest die.

To finish the card, I used the Happy Birthday from the Hey Birthday Chick stamp set.  I love the not quite even letters in the words.  I stamped the sentiment and then punched each end using the flag end of the Banner Pick A Punch.  To give that a little color to stand away from the focal layer of the same color, I used the Old Olive Stampin’ Write Marker.  I used the brush end and just layed the middle of the brush touching the edge of the sentiment.  By using the center of the brush end, it does not bend over on the cardstock to give more color than I want.  This gives a more outline look to the edge of the banner.

Below is the information on the DSP Sale.  It begins today and ends on August 2nd.  I hope you love the DSP as much as I do and can take advantage of this.

The Older You Get

Today’s card is a humorous birthday card.  As soon as I saw the Bunches of Fun stamp set in the annual catalog, I knew it had to come to my house.  I have a sarcastic sense of humor, and this fit perfectly!

Stamp Set

The Bunches of Fun stamp set has the cutest images.  I think the Stampin’ Up! artists are the best.  These images especially spoke to me because I love bananas, but only when they are on the greener side.  If they have one brown spot I am hesitant to even try them.  So of course, I had to add the banana sentiment!!

The inside sentiment is just as good.  Here is the view on the inside.

LOL!!!  To me this is the other side of the coin.  Too young for brown spots but old enough not to need the cone of shame.  A perfect match for someone in that mid-range age wise.  Like I said, this stamp set is awesome with the sentiments for those of us not quite on the formal thought wave.

Colors

Since this was intended as a humorous and fun card, I wanted brighter colors.  I decided on the Soft Suede as the base card to show off the brown spots on the bananas.  And yes I know that is not a bright color.  However it pairs wonderfully with the Granny Apple Green.  This bright green is a favorite of mine.  I used it quite often when it debuted and have tried to let it rest a bit in the last few months.

The lady’s dress is done with the Granny Apple Green Light Stampin’ Blends.  The ribbon is a retired one that is Coastal Cabana and Granny Apple Green.  Sadly, I thought it was the one which carried over that is Old Olive and Pretty Peacock.  That’s what I get for thinking.  But, It works wonderfully with my colors so I am fine with that.  I also added a few of the Blue Adhesive Gems to give the card a bit of dazzle.

Reminder:

The Last Chance Sale, shown below, is quickly approaching the end.  Some of the items may be already sold out.  If there is something on your wish list, please don’t hesitate to get them now.

Floral Art

Today’s card is a quick and easy card using the Fine Art Floral Designer Series paper as the star.  Last I checked it is still available in the Last Chance Sale.  The sheets in this pack are wonderful and work for any type of paper crafting.  I also added in the Art Gallery stamp set, which carried over to the new Annual Catalog.

The Paper

If you follow me at all, you know how much I love Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper.  I tell you often enough, right!!  Something I especially like is that both sides of the papers are gorgeous.  And today I used both sides of the same sheet.

Another thing I love to do is to Stamp On The DSP.  I am not the only one who does it, but it is not seen very often.  That is what I did today.  On the sentiment layer I stamped the flower but then also stamped the small flower image.  It is actually a layer for the flower.  I stamped off on it before stamping on the DSP.  The sentiment is from the Art Gallery stamp set also.  The boldness of it seemed to work with the business of everything else.

Layout

The layout is a regular one.  I just added the angle for the smaller sentiment piece.  I did something that I do not normally do.  I layered the two DSP pieces together after stamping the flowers.  Then I lined up the bottom edge of the larger piece with the ruler along the bottom of my Stampin’ Up! Grid Paper.  ( I used all the lines and ruler for everthing!!!)  That way I could feel fairly certain to get the sentiment stamped straight even though the layer it is on is at an angle.

As is usual for me, I chose the colors of paper and ink from the DSP.  I went with Mossy Meadow for the card base, which is not a common one for me.  And Did Not put a layer between the base and the DSP.  That is very unusual for me.  I love my layers.  The inks I used are Mossy Meadow and Poppy Parade, with the sentiment in Night of Navy.  I have shocked myself with how few products I used for this card!!

Measurements

  • The base card is cut to 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 scored and folded at 4 1/4
  • The large DSP is cut to 3 7/8 X 5 1/8
  • The angled and smaller DSP is cut 2 1/2 X 3 3/4

Birthday Snail Mail

One of the Mini Catalog Suites of products that I will truly miss is the Snail Mail.  There is just something about those adorable little snails that make me smile.  Today I have a Snail Mail Birthday card to share.

It’s All About the DSP

You know how much I love the Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper.  It is generally the base all my cards are built on.  Today it is even the focal point of the card.  I not only used the strip of a sheet from the pack on the left side, but the snail is die cut from the DSP as well.

One of the great things Stampin’ Up! does is that they make the DSP so that you can use the matching dies to cut out a pre-colored image.  What a way to save time!  I used this little trick for the Snail.  There is no way I could make the colors so perfect!  The little heart attached to the shell is from the dies at well.  That little bit of extra adds quite a bit of Cute to the card.

Layers

After die cutting the snail and adding the heart, I couldn’t decide how to add it to the card.  I wanted a little different layer.  Going through my dies, I ran across the Painted Labels Dies.  They are another set that offer such a variety for layering!  I chose to make the layer in White to blend the white around the die cut snail.

I went one step further with the layer and did something I usually forget to do.  Quite a lot of the dies have an embellishment die in the mix.  I rarely use these simply because I do not think of it.  Today it sort of jumped out at me.  So I cut the little lace look in Real Red to match the heart from the Snail’s shell.  I love the added little bit of color and fancy it gives to a fun card.

Finishing Touches

The sentiment is from the Oval Occasions stamp set.  It fit perfectly on the little envelope die from the Snail Mail Bundle.  Everything is glued directly down with the exception of the snail.  It is adhered using Stampin’ Dimensionals.  And of course, there is a little bling in the form of a Rhinestone next to the sentiment.

Generally for birthday cards I will stamp an image from the set I use on the envelope for mailing.  Just to let the person know there is something fun inside.  For today’s card I stamped the Happy Mail stamp and used the Rectangle Postage Stamp Punch to cut it.  So that it stands out just a little bit, I went around the edges of the postage edge with the Light Pool Party Stampin’ Blend.  That way it doesn’t blend in totally with the White envelope.

Biggest Birthday Wishes

The majority of the cards I send out, and make, seem to be birthday cards.  So when I saw the Biggest Wish stamp set, I knew it needed to come join the collection.  The options the set gives for mixing and matching are the makings of quite a lot of birthday cards.  I hope you will agree.

I paired the Biggest Wish sentiments with the Flowers of Friendship Bundle.  This is another new stamp set with a matching punch.  Punch Bundles are my favorite!!!  I think these flowers would make wonderful Dogwood Blooms for Spring.  They have the little bit of indention in the tip of each petal.

The layers of this card are really simple as the card was all about the sentiment.  I used Polished Pink and Soft Succulent for the colors.  To finish it off, I added the Pale Papaya color from the 2021-2023 In Color Jewels to the center of the blossoms.

I hope you have a wonderful and relaxing holiday weekend!  Getting some stamping in is on my list of things to do!

Lots of Happy

The Pretty Perennials stamp set and Dies has been a favorite of mine for this Spring.  It reminds me of the Flower Power of the 60’s and 70’s.  Plus the flowers are just so darn cute!!  They classify as Happy Flowers to me.  So here is another card using this sweet Bundle.

I believe this is a Smile card for sure!  There are a few extra products used, as well as some bright color choices.  I wanted the flowers to be the star, along with the Happy sentiment.

The colors I chose come from the Fine Art Floral Designer Series Paper.  It may be a bit difficult to see in the picture, but there is a piece of it directly behind the stamped flowers. After stamping the flowers, I decided the card base should be Flirty Flamingo with a layer of White to give some definition to the layers.

The flowers are Flirty Flamingo and Pumpkin Pie.  The small flower centers are Calypso Coral. For the larger flowers they not only got the large black centers, but a Rhinestone as well.

The sentiment was a bit difficult to place.  I finally decided on the odd angle, like a sash.  The Sending Lots Of is White Heat Embossed.  The Happy is stamped and then fussy cut.  It really was not difficult and did not take very long to do .  I think they pair well together.

Measurements

  • Card base is 5 1/2 X 8 1/2, scored and folded at 4 1/4
  • White layer is 5 1/4 X 4
  • DSP layer is 5 1/8 X 3 7/8
  • Stamped layer is 4 7/8 X 3 3/8
